All instructors at Kestrel Aviation are selected for their ability
to communicate effectively with their students and for their dedication
and commitment to their work. The flying history of the instructors
is varied leading to a diversity of experience and knowledge.
All the College's instructors have completed their ratings with
Kestrel Aviation and so the techniques taught are all the same,
thereby minimising any confusion created by differing teaching
methods. The instructor rating at Kestrel is a rigorous course
entailing many hours of briefing practice and flight training,
and the instructors are totally focused on providing the best
possible training for the students while aiming to keep the hours
as close to the minimums as possible. Each student is given individual
treatment and a course structured to suit their own circumstances.
The instructors then monitor the student's progress to ensure
that they are achieving the various milestones on target. If a
student is struggling in any area and extra coaching is required,
instructors are always available to assist.
The administrative staff are also focused on assisting the students
in any way possible to attain their goals and have various skills
to ensure that customers are handled efficiently and in a friendly
manner.

Captain
Ray Cronin
Capt. Ray Cronin is one of Australia's leading helicopter
pilots and instructors. He has extensive experience in
the general aviation industry, including over 10,000 hours,
extensive accreditation's and the owner and chief flying
instructor at Kestrel Aviation.
Ray spent four years employed as a Civil Aviation
Authority Flight Service Officer before commencing his
full time career as a pilot in Northern Queensland, flying
both single engine and multi engine aeroplanes on charter.
He then trained to commercial helicopter pilot licence
level and commenced his first helicopter charter operation
in 1981.

With a lack of dedicated helicopter flying schools in Australia,
Ray saw a need for a specialist training college,
so he established Kestrel Aviation in 1984. With 9 helicopters
and 5 fixed wing aircraft, Kestrel is now one of the busiest
helicopter schools in the southern hemisphere.
Ray has had first hand involvement in pilot training
syllabus development to all licence and rating levels. He
has been an Adviser to the Australian Civil Aviation Safety
Authority (CASA) on safety and training issues.
In addition to his flight training activities, Ray
obtained approval for and constructed a floating helipad
on the Yarra River in the Melbourne CBD. To provide a 24
hour helicopter charter service he imported and certified
the Agusta A109, Australia's first multi engine IFR charter
helicopter.
The instructor and check and training pilot refresher courses
initiated and run by Ray have received recognition
from CASA for consistently producing above average results
in pilot licence training. In recent years, Ray's
business activities have expanded to include aviation consulting
and auditing for Australian and overseas resource companies.
Ray is a nominated delegate for the Civil Aviation
Safety Authority of Australia. In this role, he has flight
testing approval for all flight crew licences and ratings
for both aeroplanes and helicopters. He currently holds
the highest qualification available in Australia for CASA.
Ray also holds a diploma in Air Traffic Services,
achieved through his service's to CASA during the late seventies.
