There are three types of helicopter licences that we offer;

Student Pilot's Licence
(SPL)
Aim
To enable the student to learn to fly.
Limitations
Students may not carry passengers, are restricted to flying in
their flying training school's designated training area, and must
be authorized for every flight by their instructor. They may fly
solo but not for more than three consecutive hours.
Pre-requisites
Before an SPL can be issued, the candidate
must:
- Be a minimum of 16 years
old.
- Have a good understanding
of written and spoken English.
- Hold a valid aviation
medical (class 1 or 2).
- Have passed the pre-solo
air legislation exam.
- Have passed the pre-solo
Flight Radio Telephone operator licence.
Please note that students may commence their pilot training prior
to their sixteenth birthday however they may not fly solo until
after they have turned sixteen.
Private Helicopter Pilots Licence (PPL)
Aim
To achieve the standard necessary for operations in a private
capacity in a helicopter.
Privileges & Limitations
The Private Pilot Licence will enable the candidate to fly anywhere
in Australia with passengers during daylight hours, in any helicopter
for which an endorsement is held. Private pilots may not be remunerated
for flying done.
Pre-requisites
Before a PPL can be issued, the candidate
must:
- Hold a Student Pilot Licence.

- Be a minimum of 17 years
old prior to the flight test.
- Have passed the Basic
Aeronautical Examination (BAK).
- Have passed the CASA PPL
(or CPL) exam.
- Have flown a minimum 50
hours which includes a minimum of 16 hours as pilot in command
(solo).
- Have passed a PPL flight test.
Commerical helicopter training

Commercial Helicopter Pilots Licence
Aim
To achieve the standard necessary for operations in a commercial
capacity in a helicopter. This is the standard which must be achieved
in order to gain employment as a professional helicopter pilot.
Limitations
The Commercial Pilot Licence will enable the candidate to fly
anywhere in Australia with passengers during daylight hours, in
any helicopter for which an endorsement is held. Commercial pilots
may be remunerated for flying done, however any commercial activities
must be conducted under an organisation, which holds an Air Operators
Certificates.
Pre-requisites
Before a CPL can be issued the candidate must:
- Hold a Student Pilot's
Licence. (see above)
- Be a minimum of 18 years
old prior to the flight test.
- Hold a class
1 aviation medical.
- Have passed the CASA CPL
exam.
- Have completed a total
minimum of 105 hours of an approved flight training syllabus,
of which a minimum of 30 hours must be as pilot in command (solo).
The last 30 hours must be completed within 90 days or an additional
10 hours must be flown.
- Have passed a CPL flight
test.

Helicopter courses for aeroplane pilots
Aeroplane pilots are able to obtain a reduction in hours for
the helicopter training courses based on the aeroplane qualification
that they hold and the required licence level.
